We offer the following types of knee surgery:
We employ multiple techniques during and after surgery to reduce pain.
DURING SURGERY
Our micro-invasive, muscle-sparing technique helps to reduce the amount of post-op pain compared to a typical knee replacement.
We do not use a tourniquet on the thigh during surgery. Not only is this a safer approach, but it prevents damage to the muscle that could be painful post-surgery and delay recovery.
We avoid cutting into the thigh muscles during surgery. While we still make a superficial midline incision, we come into the deep aspect of the knee joint from the side, avoiding cutting the quadriceps (thigh) muscles. The end result is less pain and quicker recovery.
Micro-invasive surgery also means that we take great care in the way that we handle the soft tissues during surgery. We very carefully protect the skin, muscles, and ligaments during surgery with meticulous soft tissue handling to avoid damage to these tissues.
POST- SURGERY
Multiple pain-relieving medications by mouth just prior to surgery and for the near future after surgery
Recommendation of ice pack application
A nerve block in the thigh by the anesthesiologist just prior to surgery
Multiple injections of a numbing medicine cocktail in the tissues around the knee during surgery
An On-Q pain pump catheter which pumps numbing medication into the knee joint for 3 to 4 days after surgery
We offer the following types of hip surgery:
Because of our micro-invasive surgical techniques, most patients require minimal to no narcotic pain medication after surgery. We also employ multiple techniques during and after surgery to reduce pain.
